A compact, slow growing evergreen shrub featuring lovely pale pink flowers that are shaded with darker pink, contrasting well against the dark green foliage; must have well-drained, highly acidic and organic soil, use plenty of peat moss when planting
Cilpinense Rhododendron is an open multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with an upright spreading habit of growth. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition.
This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. It has no significant negative characteristics.
Cilpinense Rhododendron is smothered in stunning clusters of shell pink trumpet-shaped flowers with rose streaks at the ends of the branches in mid spring that fade to white over time, which emerge from distinctive rose flower buds. It has dark green evergreen foliage. The small glossy oval leaves remain dark green throughout the winter.
Cilpinense Rhododendron will grow to be about 4 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 5 feet. It tends to be a little leggy, with a typical clearance of 1 foot from the ground. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 40 years or more.
