Philadelphus hybrid 'Pearls of Perfume' is a hardy, flowering deciduous shrub known for its large, fully double, white flowers that emit a sweet, citrusy fragrance. This hybrid, also referred to as mock orange, is a hybrid cross made in March of 2011 between Philadelphus x virginalis and Philadelphus lewsii 'Snow Velvet'. It reaches a mature size of 3 to 4 feet in height and 2 feet in width, making it suitable for specimen or container gardens, but it shines best when massed in mixed beds, borders, or foundation plantings. The plant is disease-resistant and requires little maintenance, thriving in sunny to dappled sun locations with moist, organically rich soils. It is also adaptable to various soil types, including alkaline soils, loam, and compacted clay, provided they offer good drainage. Pruning is not necessary, but any desired shaping should be done post-flowering.
