Haas Improved Manzanillo European Olive is bathed in stunning panicles of fragrant white flowers along the branches from late spring to early summer. The fruits are showy light green drupes which fade to brown over time, which are carried in abundance from mid summer to early fall. The fruit can be messy if allowed to drop on the lawn or walkways, and may require occasional clean-up. It has dark green foliage with grayish green undersides which emerges chartreuse in spring. The small glossy narrow leaves remain dark green throughout the winter. The smooth gray bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape.
Haas Improved Manzanillo European Olive will grow to be about 20 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 15 feet. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 1 foot from the ground, and is suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live to a ripe old age of 300 years or more; think of this as a heritage tree for future generations!
This tree should only be grown in full sunlight. It is very adaptable to both dry and moist locations, and should do just fine under average home landscape conditions. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America. |
