Dasylirion cedrosanum is a lesser-known sotol native to the highlands of the Sierra Madre Occidental, predominantly in Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Durango, Mexico. It thrives in open, alkaline rocky grasslands at elevations between 3,000 and 6,000 feet. Morphologically, it closely resembles Dasylirion wheeleri but features broader, twisted, powder-blue linear leaves. Over a decade, plants typically grow to about 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide, while mature specimens that have lived for a century may reach heights up to 5 feet.
